Pre-professional Division Dress Code

As a professional classical ballet school, Alma Dance School adheres to a professional dress code for all dancers. Current students should have their attire by the first day of class.  New students have one week to purchase the required attire; all students should have full attire by the second week of class.  Following is an overview of the dress code.

* Please note all uniform leotards from the Pre-Professional Ballet A to D levels are from brand Ballet Rosa Academy. Uniform leotard for the Pre-professional Ballet E to F are from brand Capezio Studio Collection.

  • PPBA: Black Leotard style: Delphine Tank from Ballet Rosa with white alignment belt and convertible pink tights.

  • PPBB: Black Leotard style: Delphine Tank from Ballet Rosa with light pink alignment belt and convertible pink tights.

  • PPBC: Black Leotard style: Aube Camisole from Ballet Rosa with lilac alignment belt and convertible pink tights.

  • PPPD: Black Leotard style: Grazia Camisole with dark blue alignment belt and convertible pink tights.

  • PPBE: Black leotard style #SE1029W from Capezio Studio Collection with turquoise alignment belt and convertible pink tights.

  • PPBF: Black leotard style #SE1030W from Capezion Studio Collection with purple alignment belt and convertible pink tights.

  • Male Dancers for all divisions: White T-shirt, black tights, black dance belt and white socks (short).

PURCHASING ATTIRE: Pre-Professional Division alignment belts may be purchased through the school at the time of registration for $10.

Uniform leotards for the Pre-professional Ballet E through F levels, tights, ballet slippers, pointe shoes, tap shoes, character skirts and character shoes can be purchased at: Dance ‘N Tees.  They have two locations: Schaumburg-Salem Plaza Shopping Center, 1065 N Salem Dr, Schaumburg, IL 60194, (847) 884-5924, and Naperville-Wheatland Marketplace, 3124 IL-59, Naperville, IL, 60564, (630) 904-4433. (You may want to call ahead to make sure your dancer’s size is in stock.) The character skirt and shoes may also be ordered from Discount Dance Supply at www.discountdance.com.

Ballet/Conditioning Classes: Same attire as ballet class is required. Dance shorts can also be worn. Please no pants, as the teacher needs be able to see the dancer’s legs during class.

  1. Pre-professional Ballet A dancers will need a mat, a foam roller at least 18 inches long and two yoga blocks (Dimensions: 9 inches W x 6 inches H x 4 inches D / Weight: 4.6). Please use the links below as a reference for the foam roller and yoga blocks.

  2. Pre-professional Ballet B dancers will need a mat, a theraBand, ankle weights, a foam roller at least 18 inches long and two yoga block (Dimensions: 9 inches W x 6 inches H x 4 inches D / Weight: 4.6). The TheraBand must be 9 feet long and 6″ (or 15cm) wide, medium strength. Note: “medium strength” bands will be different colors depending on the brand. We recommend the one in the link below as it is very long, and it can be cut to the needed length. If you decide to purchase this one, please ensure you select the 6 yards heavy green. Ankle weights for ages 7-10 need to be 1-pound.

  3. Pre-professional Ballet C and up dancers will need a mat, a theraBand, ankle weights, a resistance band, a foam roller at least 18 inches long and two yoga block (Dimensions: 9 inches W x 6 inches H x 4 inches D / Weight: 4.6). The TheraBand must be 9 feet long and 6″ (or 15cm) wide, medium strength. Note: “medium strength” bands will be different colors depending on the brand. We recommend the one in the link below as it is very long, and it can be cut to the needed length. If you decide to purchase this one, please ensure you select the 6 yards heavy green. Ankle weights for ages 11 and up need to be 2-pound.

Character/Folk Dances: Same attire as ballet class is required with black character skirt (which should be slightly below the knee) and black character shoes with 1.5 inch heels.

Contemporary/Modern: Same attire as ballet class is required. Dance shorts may be worn. Please no pants as the teacher needs to be able to see the dancers’ legs.

BALLET SHOES:

Pre-Professional Division: Pink canvas ballet slippers are required, please no leather slippers. All students from level PPBB and up will be required to have stretchy pointe shoes ribbons on their ballet slippers. This will help the younger students learn the proper way to tie their shoes to build a habit for when they start pointe shoe work. The instructor/directors will demonstrate placement for the ribbons. Students approved by the directors to begin pointe work must also have their approval on the proper fit before sewing and wearing pointe shoes. Level PPBA will not be required to have the stretchy pointe shoes ribbons on their ballet slippers.

Male Dancers for all divisions: Must wear white ballet slippers.

Any shoes worn in class should never have been worn outside or on pavement as this may cause damage to the Marley flooring. Students should also wear shoes to and from the studio and not arrive or leave barefoot. (Also note, black ballet shoes or black pointe shoes cannot be worn in the studio as it can stain the flooring.)

HAIR: Hair must be pulled back neatly and secured in a bun.

JEWELRY & ACCESSORIES: No jewelry is allowed in class, except for small stud earrings. This includes no rings, watches, fitness trackers or bracelets of any kind. No leg warmers, black tights, ballet skirts or extra clothing of any kind may be worn to class.

COVER-UPS: All students should wear cover-ups to and from the school at all times.
